At Uplands, we follow the National Curriculum for all subjects. In Reading, children are encouraged to develop a love of books and reading for pleasure, and our homework and in-class activities reflect this. Phonics is taught through the 'Letters and Sounds' programme and is consolidated all the way through to the end of Year 6. In Writing, children develop cursive handwriting early on in their school lives, as well as building their creativity and composition for a range of genres. As reading and writing are so closely linked, we use a variety of high-quality model texts to inspire our children's writing.
Long term plans for the year in English can be found here.
